Methodology
SlateGauge evaluates the relationship between budget, market positioning, comparable performance, financing structure and distribution economics. It does not promise a film’s outcome.
Genre, format, budget, audience, cast status, production location and distribution plan.
6–8 named U.S.-market comparisons based on genre, tone, audience, scale, release path and package relevance.
Multiple scenarios with confidence ranges instead of a single unsupported prediction.
Fees, expenses, soft money, timing, waterfall, breakeven, ROI and IRR.
SlateGauge reports are decision-support tools, not investment advice, appraisals, guarantees or offers to sell securities.

CRIME THRILLER · FEATURE FILM
Independent film financial analysis and scenario model
Strong potential at the proposed production budget.
The model indicates a viable path to recoupment, subject to execution, market access and final package strength.
01 · DECISION OVERVIEW
The project’s proposed capital structure is evaluated against three revenue outcomes. Values below are modelled estimates—not promises of performance.
Gross receipts represent worldwide receipts before the modelled distribution fee. Investor returns are calculated after this deduction using the illustrative waterfall shown later in this report.
02 · PACKAGE & POSITIONING
A financeability score is a structured indicator of the relationship among budget, financing leverage, genre positioning and projected recovery—not a credit rating.
The project demonstrates strong potential at the proposed budget. Closing risk remains dependent on package quality, verified incentives and a credible distribution strategy.
03 · CREATIVE ASSESSMENT
This preview shows the SlateGauge coverage format. In production, the synopsis and analysis will be generated from the securely uploaded screenplay.
Preview placeholder: The central premise, protagonist, objective, opposition and stakes will be distilled into a concise market-facing logline, followed by an assessment of clarity, originality and commercial hook.
The production analysis will provide a spoiler-inclusive synopsis covering the inciting incident, major turning points, midpoint, climax and resolution. It will be written for producers and decision-makers rather than as promotional copy.
No screenplay text has been analyzed in this static demonstration. Creative findings shown here describe the final report structure only.
04 · STORY & STRUCTURE
Each category receives a written assessment, evidence from the screenplay and a transparent score.
The final system will attach scene or page references to significant observations so filmmakers can act on the coverage.
05 · CHARACTER & DIALOGUE
The coverage tests whether the protagonist’s choices drive the story and whether supporting roles create meaningful pressure, contrast and change.
Assesses clarity of desire, internal need, active decision-making and earned transformation.
76Assesses opposition, escalating consequences and connection to the central theme.
73Assesses individual purpose, relationships, voice and opportunities for consolidation.
70Assesses character differentiation, exposition, rhythm, subtext and performability.
72The completed report will also flag demanding roles, cast-dependent material, ensemble balance and character elements that materially affect package value or production cost.
06 · CREATIVE–COMMERCIAL FIT
The scorecard separates screenplay craft from commercial and production considerations so one strong dimension does not hide another weak one.
Pass, Consider and Recommend are coverage opinions—not guarantees of financing, sale, production or commercial performance.
07 · SOURCES & USES
This view tests whether identified financing sources cover the proposed production budget and highlights any remaining financing gap.
Share of production budget funded by non-equity sources.
Share of budget expected from investor capital.
The entered sources fully cover the proposed production budget.
08 · REVENUE RANGE
The three cases are deliberately separated to prevent a single-point forecast from being mistaken for certainty.

3.40× budgetMeaningful profit participationThese scenarios do not predict audience demand. They show the financial consequences if the stated revenue levels occur.
09 · RECEIPTS TO PRODUCER
The model applies the entered distribution fee to each gross-receipts case. Other expenses must be added when known.
A production report should be re-run when a distributor, sales agent or collection-account agreement provides actual fees and expense caps.
10 · INVESTOR DISTRIBUTIONS
The report assumes investors receive 100% of available model receipts until contributed equity is returned, followed by 50% of remaining profits.
The modelled distribution fee is deducted from gross receipts.
Available net receipts flow to investors until the equity contribution is recouped.
Remaining net profits are divided 50% to investors and 50% to the producer side.
11 · ROI & TIMING
Returns are shown before investor-specific taxes. Annualized return uses an illustrative three-year realization period.
$645K modelled profit above returned capital
Later receipts reduce annualized returns even when the same total dollars are ultimately distributed. The production model should be updated as contractual payment schedules become known.
12 · WHAT CHANGES THE OUTCOME
Base-case investor ROI is recalculated across changes in receipts and distribution fees. The highlighted cell reflects the current model.

13 · MARKET CONTEXT
Production reports include 6–8 named U.S.-market comparable films selected for relevance. Comparable titles are qualitative positioning references; SlateGauge does not claim unverified commercial performance data.
Comparable titles are positioning references. Financial performance should not be presented as authoritative without a documented external source, date accessed and explanation of relevance.
14 · DILIGENCE PRIORITIES
Risk ratings identify areas requiring verification or contractual protection before capital is committed.
Use multiple scenarios; avoid relying on a single sale or territory.
Negotiate caps, approval rights and regular statements.
Maintain contingency and evaluate completion protection.
Obtain professional estimates and confirm qualifying spend.
Disclose the long and uncertain realization period.
Reassess after binding cast, director and sales commitments.
15 · MODEL GOVERNANCE
Every decision-support model is only as reliable as its inputs. Material assumptions should be validated independently before use.
Downside, base and upside cases are scenario inputs derived from the proposed production budget. They are not forecasts or guarantees.
The entered fee is applied to gross receipts. Unspecified expenses, commissions, residuals, taxes and participations are excluded.
The preview assumes return of equity followed by a 50/50 investor–producer split. Governing legal documents control actual distributions.
Annualized returns use an illustrative three-year realization period. Actual timing can materially alter IRR.
Production reports provide 6–8 named U.S.-market comparable titles. Any budgets, grosses, sales or other performance figures require a verified external data source and are not inferred by SlateGauge.
